The weekend flew by very quickly. I met up with the fellas for drinks. The Santa Run race did go on as planned. And we went to New York City on Saturday. It was a whirlwind, but let’s get into things as they transpired…
Met up with the guys “for drinks” at the Middletown Applebees as is normally our custom every second Friday of the month. Enjoyed an Irish Coffee when I first got there…it was pretty strong. Didn’t have another. Had a nice time chatting with Vinnie and Rich and catching up a bit.
The Santa Run went on as scheduled. Decided to Uber to Asbury Park instead of driving myself since parking in the city has become difficult. Got there a bit after nine and spent time stretching and walking around Convention Hall a bit to stay warm. The race itself started right at ten, and I officially paced at 8:37-minute-mile. Not sure why but this run felt a little harder. Maybe it was because it was cold. Or maybe I was bundled up to the nines. In any event, I’m fairly okay with it and hopefully can ratchet that number down a bit. Liana drove me back to Avon.
Headed out to Hamilton to meet Denise and Devin, along with Al, for our annual trek into New York City for the Holiday stuff. The snow fell heavier, and it was the slushy kind (ick). We skipped heading to Central Park, but we did not skip Rockefeller Center. And neither did the tourists. It was far more crowded than I ever experienced (I swear it gets worse each year). And it was unpleasant: pushing and shoving…and for what…to see a tree that is unchanged from year-to-year?? However, there was one positive that we did enjoy, and that was the new lighting displays at the Sak’s location on 5th Avenue; they were gorgeous!
We stopped over at Bryant Park, which Denise particularly enjoyed. Al treated us to Hot Chocolate at the “No Chewing Allowed” stand (by the way, they were delicious!). We took the “F” to Little Italy and had dinner at Da Gennaro on Mulberry Street; it was okay, nothing to write home about and took the “2” from Canal Street back to Penn Station and headed back to Hamilton. All in all a good time but there’s a pretty good chance that I’ll pass on heading into the city next season. The crowds are very irksome and dealing with them year after year just degrades the experience.
Caught up on rest on Sunday. Al treated to breakfast at the Star View, and we had a late lunch over at Red Lobster in the afternoon before I headed back to the shore. Did some meal prep when I got home and did chest and shoulders over at Jersey Shore Fitness. Watched some football during dinner (caught the Eagles/Rams game) and caught up on some stuff I DVR’d during the latter part of last week. All in all a good day.
That’s about all for now. TTFN…
