Back on Blogger

After closing down my Wordpress® site because Yours Truly is somewhat frugal in certain matters, I’m now revisiting blogging here once again. My old Wordpress® posts have fallen into the Great Abyss and probably have disappeared. Not forever and ever, mind you, since nothing is ever temporary here on the Internet, but I’ll probably won’t see those screeds again.

We’re now into the Holiday Season once more. Al and I spent a very nice, yet short, visit with my mom, stepfather, and aunt over Thanksgiving weekend. It was just a two-day excursion and Mom was surprised by our visit; we wanted it to be a surprise for her 70th birthday. We spent a good portion of the time helping to get their houses decorated, and I was able to sneak away to a local CrossFit® gym and get a workout done. And of course on our way back to CLT, we enjoyed a small indulgence at The Greatest Breakfast Place in the Universe: Waffle House; it didn’t disappoint.

I ran the 5K course in the Navesink Challenge that Sunday and did pretty well, pacing at 8:13. The goal for next year is to attempt the 15K course, and training for it started this past Sunday - completing a 4-mile run. The plan is to start working on the distances when performing the Run of the Week (except this Saturday when I do the Santa Run in Asbury Park - a 5K). Folks tell me that the 15K course is actually very scenic, we’ll see how it goes next fall.

Rich and I went to the Jets/Chiefs game this past Sunday; he had gotten a pair of free tickets with parking. What an exciting game! We were on the edge of our seats throughout the entire contest and the Jets were victorious, winning 38-31. The weather, though dry, was rather cool and it felt awesome returning to his car with the heated seats!

Speaking of Football, much ado about the Giants. Their season has been abysmal, and as of this write,  they are at 2-and-10 now. Problems: a very-injured receiving corps and an O-line like a sieve. And their head coach. And their General Manager. McAdoo benched Manning last week, and put in Geno Smith when they played against the Raiders this weekend. And of course, that did nothing; they still lost. Well, maybe not nothing, because John Mara finally wised-up and canned both Reese and McAdoo yesterday. Hopefully their rebuilding process starts now...

Oh, and my fantasy football team, the Screamin’ Calves is having just as bad of a season as the Giants. With the playoffs fast-approaching, the league reached out about a draft; I won’t be participating. I guess I’m just not into it and simply prefer watching the games each week. So, it’s likely that the Screamin’ Calves are disbanding...live and learn I guess (or more apt, “been there, done that”).

The work-week is trudging along okay. My back is feeling better after tweaking it during a workout last week. Of course, I did not lay-off from training; staying the course is vital right now, being that we’re into the Holiday season. Note to self: next post to talk about “Holidays vs. Christmas”.

Your Host.

Weather Closure

We got the notification last night that the State would be closed today, so another day off...yay!  All told, a short week between MLK day and closures midday Tuesday and today.  The major arteries were cleared today, so it looks like tomorrow will see me back at work. The day wound up being quite productive. We lucked out again with the way the snow came in; the snow didn't accumulate around our property with the exception of the backyard, which meant very little shoveling.  The only shoveling that had to be done was to dig out the cars, which between the two of them took 25 minutes. Hit the gym for the 9am class.  Today's workout was a challenge conditioning circuit.  There were two, 10-minute circuits.  I got through the workout okay, though I need to roll my upper back out tomorrow.  It may be time to order one of those rollers from Perform Better. Hung out at home for a bit, showered, and watched Let's Make A Deal and The Price is Right ...

9th & Ocean

It was a sense of the familiar with a side of strangeness.  Nearly four months after Hurricane Sandy had done her cooch dance around these parts, we finally were able to walk along Ocean Avenue in Belmar this afternoon.  The town advertised specific businesses that were open along the thoroughfare.  I had driven to Ocean Avenue the other day, but the barricades were up prohibiting pedestrian and vehicle traffic.  Al wanted to check things out. We walked down 8th Avenue toward the beach, and saw folks walking and jogging along Ocean Avenue. We assumed it was okay to walk along the beachfront, and proceeded to walk south. A police van was constantly patrolling the area, basically making sure that everyone stayed on the western side of the street and on the sidewalk.  We walked down to the south end and back.  In a nutshell, there was a lot of cosmetic damage to many of the homes and businesses.  One home had some major structural damage, and an overh...

Paleo - Day 27 Recap - "Unplanned"

Today saw a day off from Paleoville.  Need to get back on track on Monday.  I'll stick to the plan for breakfast and lunch tomorrow, but I think we're going to check out Porta in Asbury Park for dinner tomorrow evening. Did the challenge workout this morning.  I wasn't overly thrilled by my completion time, but the important thing was finishing the workout.  It went like this: 10 sets, descending ladder starting with 10 reps and working down to 1 rep for the last set.  The exercises were: KB Swings Squat Thrusts KB Cleans KB Thrusters (squat with overhead press) KB Snatch 1/2 Burpees Dinner was the filet mignons I bought a couple weeks ago; they were teh awesome! Grade for day: C- Update : Didn't make it to Porta
