With today being a day off for Aunt Pat, we had the day together for some quality time. She suggested that we check out Mount Airy, NC, a place that pays homage to Andy Griffith (The Andy Griffith Show, Matlock). We toured the Andy Griffith Museum. One of the secondary actors from The Andy Griffith Show, Betty Lynn (Thelma Lou in the series) was there autographing photos that were sold by the museum. She was very gracious, and spoke very highly of the actors she worked with on the show.
Mount Airy is about 90 minutes north of Charlotte, right up the I-77.
The downtown area of Mount Airy is referred to as "Mayberry", with many of the shops and restaurants playing off of the characters from The Andy Griffith Show. The Main Street area is very charming. There are a number of restaurants and novelty shops along that thoroughfare that were interesting, and the overall look of that part of town was very charming.
Unfortunately, I was lazy and left the camera in the trunk. I really should have taken some photos while I was there.
We spent a couple of hours meandering around the museum and the shops before we headed back.
Charlotte is holding their Queen's Feast Restaurant Week and we had reservations at Mickey & Mooch in Huntersville. The dinner was fabulous and the diet was put aside for today. We each had the filet mignon and shrimp scampi, with mashed potatoes. Moreover, we each had the 7-layer chocolate cake for dessert. Can you say "stuffed"??
The food and service was fantastic. I want to take Al here for dinner the next time we come back.
Aunt Pat is working all day tomorrow, and I'll be on my own. The plan is to check out the local CrossFit "box" here in Denver (no excuse for missing any training), have a late-breakfast/early lunch here, and perhaps explore downtown Charlotte. I'm kind of looking forward to hitting the gym here and seeing what it's like.
That's about it for today. TTFN.
