We’re in February!

Going to report on some positive stuff today.

It’s A Boy!
My friend Rich, and his husband Joe, finally welcomed their second child, Finn, into the world on January 30th. Though a challenging delivery, the surrogate and the baby are both well and in good health.

Fly Eagles Fly
You might thinking...is this guy NUTS?? And yeah, this Giants fan probably is. But...it’s been a long time coming and Philadelphia finally won their first Super Bowl last Sunday against New England. Those two teams being in this year’s Super Bowl for a Giants fan was a shit sandwich...who would we root for?? I just...couldn’t...root for Tom Brady or New England, since he and Bob Kraft are known Trump supporters. And Tom Brady is like Teflon...no matter what he does, shit doesn’t stick to him. Though Philly and NE played a great game last Sunday, Brady got yet another dose of Humble Pie (the Giants had fed him a couple of slices in the past), this time thanks to the Eagles.

Though I’m staunchly not an Eagles fan, there’s a part of me that is happy for the (non-thuggery) fans, especially older ones who waited a very long time to see them win a Lombardi, and finally witnessing it in their lifetimes. It feels good being a fan of a team that’s won at least one, and I just can’t bring myself to be a “wet blanket” in the midst of friends and acqaintences who are thrilled over their victory. No one around the office is really crowing or shoving it in our faces, but there’s a lot of smiles around here, and it’s nice to see.

The parade will be held in Philly tomorrow and it’s expected that three million are expected to attend. I hope the fans behave themselves; there were a number of well publicized incidents that occurred after the game last Sunday. And we know well how sensationalism sells in the news.

Training
Despite a challenging January dealing with lower back pain and tendonitis in my right elbow, things continue to move in a favorable direction. I’m liking what I see in the mirror. And in general, I feel pretty good. My Training Room workouts are going very well, and I’m still continuing to lift a few days a week over at Jersey Shore Fitness. I’ve changed the protocol somewhat with the JSFS workouts and just focusing on one body part in the interest of time; the workouts had been taking close to two hours and that is in addition to my training at the Training Room. In the addition of trying to make some strength gains, the last couple of weeks have been a five-by-five protocol, which has been going well so far. It’s still a bit early to tell for sure and I’ll report again on this within the next month.

That’s about all for now. Will write more soon.

Weather Closure

We got the notification last night that the State would be closed today, so another day off...yay!  All told, a short week between MLK day and closures midday Tuesday and today.  The major arteries were cleared today, so it looks like tomorrow will see me back at work. The day wound up being quite productive. We lucked out again with the way the snow came in; the snow didn't accumulate around our property with the exception of the backyard, which meant very little shoveling.  The only shoveling that had to be done was to dig out the cars, which between the two of them took 25 minutes. Hit the gym for the 9am class.  Today's workout was a challenge conditioning circuit.  There were two, 10-minute circuits.  I got through the workout okay, though I need to roll my upper back out tomorrow.  It may be time to order one of those rollers from Perform Better. Hung out at home for a bit, showered, and watched Let's Make A Deal and The Price is Right ...

9th & Ocean

It was a sense of the familiar with a side of strangeness.  Nearly four months after Hurricane Sandy had done her cooch dance around these parts, we finally were able to walk along Ocean Avenue in Belmar this afternoon.  The town advertised specific businesses that were open along the thoroughfare.  I had driven to Ocean Avenue the other day, but the barricades were up prohibiting pedestrian and vehicle traffic.  Al wanted to check things out. We walked down 8th Avenue toward the beach, and saw folks walking and jogging along Ocean Avenue. We assumed it was okay to walk along the beachfront, and proceeded to walk south. A police van was constantly patrolling the area, basically making sure that everyone stayed on the western side of the street and on the sidewalk.  We walked down to the south end and back.  In a nutshell, there was a lot of cosmetic damage to many of the homes and businesses.  One home had some major structural damage, and an overh...

Paleo - Day 27 Recap - "Unplanned"

Today saw a day off from Paleoville.  Need to get back on track on Monday.  I'll stick to the plan for breakfast and lunch tomorrow, but I think we're going to check out Porta in Asbury Park for dinner tomorrow evening. Did the challenge workout this morning.  I wasn't overly thrilled by my completion time, but the important thing was finishing the workout.  It went like this: 10 sets, descending ladder starting with 10 reps and working down to 1 rep for the last set.  The exercises were: KB Swings Squat Thrusts KB Cleans KB Thrusters (squat with overhead press) KB Snatch 1/2 Burpees Dinner was the filet mignons I bought a couple weeks ago; they were teh awesome! Grade for day: C- Update : Didn't make it to Porta
