We got to Great Adventure today. This time the trip was about the rides.
In a nutshell Ron and I experienced a number of rides in the park, while Al, who's not a ride person, was quite content people-watching and walking around. Here's a synopsis:
El Toro - finally rode this thing, and OMG, it lived up to its reputation! There's always been a soft spot for the Coney Island Cyclone, but this ride is a now a classic. The wait time wasn't bad and the experience was exhilarating.
Superman Ultimate Flight - It's different. It's a strange sensation hanging there during the ride, and there's this one part after the first drop where you go through this diving loop (that was really strange). It's fun, but the wait seemed longer (they're not very efficient loading and unloading the trains).
The Dark Knight - basically a wild mouse-type coaster in the dark. This was our shortest wait time, about 15 minutes. Though not that popular, it's still a fun ride.
Sky Screamer - this was introduced in 2013. It replaced the Wave Swinger and is a nice addition to the park. The height is over 200 feet, and it moves fast. Very fast. The views of the park from up there were amazing.
We looked into doing the Fast Passes, but elected not to move forward with it. The Platinum one is about $100 USD...for one day's use. Each person in your party would have to purchase one. We toughed out the waits, and since we have season passes, we'll just do a little bit each visit.
All in all it was a great time. The long wait for the Ultimate Flight may have proven beneficial, as there was no queasiness on my end. We all found the park enjoyable, though there is a lot, and I do mean, a lot of corporate advertising all over the place. Al and I did not eat in the park (I had grabbed a turkey on whole wheat from the local Wawa) as food prices in the park are very inflated. Looking forward to a return visit this summer.
